N.Y.'s Cardinal O'Connor Dead at 80
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cardinal John O'Connor, the conservative spiritual
leader of the second largest diocese in the United States, died on
Wednesday at the age of 80 after months of ill health, church officials
said.

The high-profile religious leader had struggled since last August in the
aftermath of surgery to remove a brain tumor and had rarely been seen in
public lately after years spent sharing the spotlight with politicians and
other power brokers.
