HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Anne Barton, a longtime character actress who
enjoyed a 30-year career beginning in the 1950s, died Monday at her home
in Los Angeles following a lengthy illness. She was 72.

Barton was born in Evansville, Ind., and reared in Columbus, Ohio. She
moved to New York at 17 to study acting at Barnard and made her first
Broadway appearance in ``Junior Miss'' a year later. She met her future
husband, actor Dan Barton, while she was with the road company of ``Life
With Father'' in Chicago.

They married the following year and moved to Hollywood, where she took the
lead in the stage presentation of ``I Am a Camera'' at the Players Ring.

Barton guested on such popular TV shows as ``Have Gun, Will Travel,''
``Cannon'' and ``Green Acres'' and made multiple appearances on
``Gunsmoke,'' ``Zane Grey Theater,'' ``Perry Mason'' and ``Twilight
Zone.''

She also appeared in a handful of features including ``The Green Eyed
Blonde'' (1957), ``Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?'' (1962) and ``The Way
West'' (1967).

She is survived by her husband of 51 years; a son, Steven, a musician; a
daughter, actress-producer Susan Berman; and a granddaughter.

A memorial service for Barton will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First
Unitarian Church, 12355 Moorpark St., Studio City. In lieu of flowers,
family suggests donations be made to Assisted Home Hospice, 16909
Parthenia, #203, North Hills, CA 91343.
