Former astronaut Pete Conrad killed in motorcycle accident

OJAI, California (CNN) -- Former astronaut Charles "Pete" Conrad has been
killed in a motorcycle accident in California.

The Ventura County sheriff's office says the 69-year-old ran off the road
near Ojai, California on Thursday afternoon during a ride with friends.

He was taken to the hospital with what were initially believed to be minor
injuries, but died about six hours later from what the coroner says were
internal injuries.

Conrad was the veteran of four space flights, starting with Gemini 5 in
1965.

He became the third person to walk on the moon during Apollo 12.

He was manned the first Skylab mission, which was launched in 1973.
